STYLE GURU STYLE: Welcome To The Dark Side

The Lanvin pre-fall 2015 collection mixes feminine pieces with grunge attitude. The collection is reminiscent of the Italian street wear I see daily in Florence. Throughout the collection, Lanvin features bold black and white outfits that play with texture and pattern in a charming way. In each look you’ll find a masculine piece such as a suit or flat boots paired with a more feminine piece such as a statement coat detailed with fur or leather. In Italian street wear the color black is the star. You often find people sticking to dark colors and mixing masculine pieces with structured, feminine ones. This Lanvin collection sticks to a similar philosophy opting mainly for dark fabrics both plain and patterned. Being from the warm weather of South Carolina where people dress in bright colors, I found myself extremely inspired by the chic dark fabrics featured in this Lanvin collection.

To achieve a Lanvin inspired look I opted for black skinny pants and black boots. I added texture to break up this monochromatic pairing by choosing my buckled boots. For my top I was inspired by the masculine pieces in the Lanvin collection. I chose a simple two-toned collared blouse. I buttoned the top all the way up to draw attention to the collar and give the blouse a structured feel. The black on the bottom half of the blouse adds to the black pants by creating a lengthening effect. To add some texture to my look I chose a patterned faux fur coat. The coat sticks to neutral colors and has black in the pattern as well. The loose fit of the coat and buckled boots help to establish a subtle grunge attitude in the look. I kept my makeup simple and hair loose to keep the look casual.

This Lanvin inspired look screams Italian street style in an edgy fashion. The abundance of black in the look keeps it classic and cool. This collection inspired me to pair dark tones with texture for a simple yet chic look.

Get My Look: 1. A pair of black masculine boots. 2. A simple button-up blouse. 3. A faux fur coat to add texture.
