STYLE GURU STYLE: Wednesday Addams

One of my earliest childhood memories is of the enviously gothic fashion from the old television show, The Addams Family. Specifically, I idolized the young daughter, Wednesday Addams, and her perfect collared, black shift dress and sharply wicked sense of humor.

I recently fell in love with Diesel Black Gold’s 2015 ready-to-wear collection. The pieces featured are dark and edgy, showcasing the versatility and sharpness of an all-black style. I have no doubt that if Wednesday Addams were a modern college student, this would be the collection of her dreams. The specific look I fell in love with was look 9. The model wears a kilted black skirt and high black turtleneck underneath a fitted, black leather jacket. All the looks are minimally accented by silver buckles and zippers.

To make this look my own and appropriate for winter, I wore my coziest black shift dress with long sleeves and a mock turtleneck. I paired this with a fitted black jacket that cinched in my waist to add shape to the loose shift dress. For a layered look, I also wore my mock over-the-knee tights, which give the appearance of knee-high socks without all the hassle. The tights also have a silver detail line between the sheer and opaque material, which adds a bit to the look. I kept my jewelry minimal like in the collection and only wore a small black and gold ring. For some added edge, I wore my favorite buckled, gray ankle boots. I swapped our my usual dark lipstick for a rosier, nude shade to emulate the models within Black Diesel Gold’s show.

Get My Look: 1. A fittedĀ black jacket. 2. A loose black shift dress. 3. Mock over-the-knee tights.
