STYLE GURU STYLE: Wearing Bridal Gowns in Public

Vera Wang’s 2016 bridal line was different, to say the least. As one of the world’s largest bridal producers, the show featured breathtaking gowns which fit impeccably and showed a little more skin than your average wedding dress. I caught myself wishing I was a bride for a minute, wearing one of those stunning pieces down the aisle. Finally, I had an epiphany. I could achieve the same sultry effect for more of an everyday look, while still incorporating my personal bohemian style.

I drew inspiration from the intricate lace and mesh details on most of the dresses from the show. For my recreation, I love that there are sheer panels of lace in the midriff and just above my knees for a more casual feel. The bust and skirt are fully lined on the inside to keep me covered. Also, the slit is ideal for maximum comfort and mobility throughout the day. What I love most about this dress was the quality of the lace. It is a thicker, crochet type that won’t rip easily and also isn’t too old fashioned.

Since the dress itself is a statement piece, I decided to keep my accessories minimal but purposeful. To add color, I threw on a turquoise bangle with a matching pair of earrings. Implementing pops of color in your basic outfits is a great way to amplify your look or transition it through different seasons. My nails are painted with bubblegum pink polish and a bit of glitter for extra sparkle.

My favorite part about this look, surprisingly, is how I styled my hair. I think it completes the outfit perfectly, for an undone yet put together vibe. The waves are natural, but you can also use second-day curls to get the same effect. I just twisted my hair back on both sides and secured it with a clear elastic. For added bohemian flare, just make smaller braids in random places throughout your hair.
