STYLE GURU STYLE: Washed-Out Wonderland

When it comes to dressing comfortably and weather appropriately, the transitional periods between seasons are always tricky. The last few weeks of summer have brought in scorching days and cooler nights, with random showers of rain (and even hail) in between. The key to coping with these erratic weather patterns is combining basic pieces to create versatile outfits.

This look was greatly inspired by the first half of Diesel Black Gold’s resort 2016 collection. Joggers, staple leather jackets and scuba outerwear all in washed out hues make up the first half of the collection, while biker inspired pieces, athletic outerwear and flounced dresses in blacks and dark blues make up the second. With the perfect mix of athletic and biker chic, this collection is right up my alley.

I adopted the pale color palette of this particular menswear number, and built my outfit by using the same basic pieces in the look. I opted for a more casual translation by pairing my white cut-off skinny jeans with a heather gray T-shirt. The denim jacket tied around my waist transforms the basic jeans and T-shirt combo into a casually chic daytime look. The jacket can be slung over the shoulders in case it gets chilly in the evening. A pair of black pointed leather pumps, a leather chain bag, and delicate gold accessories complete and dress up my look. This versatile outfit can easily be taken from a full day at the office to dinner and drinks in the evening.

As summer closes in, it’s time to pull out those trusty basics out of your closet. Pair these staples with the right accessories, and you end up with surprisingly chic, versatile, non-boring outfits.

Get My Look: 1. A relaxed T-shirt. 2. A pair of white skinny jeans. 3. A light wash denim jacket. 4. A pair of pointed pumps. 5. A leather chain bag.
