STYLE GURU STYLE: Vintage Vibes

January 14th, 2016 at 2:07am

I’ve said it time and time again, I am obsessed with the 1960s and 1970s! I enjoy implementing trends from both decades into my wardrobe. While I love classic style staples and admire sophisticated simplicity in fashion, recently I have found myself drawn to more colorful and adventurous vintage ensembles. My closet is bursting with patterned mini dresses and fringe galore!

Taking inspiration from fashion designer Orla Kiely’s pre-fall 2016 runway collection, I created my look by flaunting a bold patterned dress from Show Me Your Mumu. Similar to Kiely’s line, which boasts large prints and retro inspired slightly oversized pieces, my dress has little shape to it, but supplies ample vintage appeal with it’s ruffle-trimmed sleeve and skirt hem detailing. Unlike the more muted tones and classic colors featured in the Orla Kiely runway line, my ensemble is bursting with vibrant fuchsia and a myriad of other striking hues!

Vintage looks typically stick to one time period when it comes to their execution and inspiration. However, I thought, why not mix it up a little by creating an outfit that draws inspiration from multiple decades? Notice that my sunglasses are a 1950s retro cat eye style with a touch of gold for a trendy twist; while both my suede Steve Madden booties and my dress are very 1960s and my Rebecca Minkoff handbag is ultra modern-chic. I topped off my look with bold makeup, hair and nails. I am sporting indigo nail polish as well as a deep mauve lip and my hair is loosely curled.

Achieving my look is easy! You simply need three things!

Get My Look: 1. Any vintage-inspired dress. 2. Booties. 3. Stylish shades.
