STYLE GURU STYLE: Vintage Velvet

Style Guru Style

Red and black together is one of the most quintessential color combinations, and it’s no wonder we see it pop up time and time again on the runway. The Moschino spring 2014 ready-to-wear collection was all about the striking contrast between black and red. With whimsical pieces like a hat made of teddy bears or a formal gown featuring a cartoon cow, this collection mixed the classic with the unexpected.

For my sister’s high school graduation (congrats!), I attempted to incorporate pops of red into my all-black look inspired by Moschino’s spring 2014 ready-to-wear. Anyone who knows me knows that I gravitate towards black and gray clothing and it makes up the overwhelming majority of my wardrobe. I love all black outfits. To me, they are the epitome of being sleek, elegant and timeless. Paired with pops of bright red for summer — what could be better?

One of my favorite trends lately is minimalistic strappy sandals. Normally, I’m not the one to go crazy over an “it” piece like this, but these sandals are just so classic. They go with anything, and the thin straps will make your legs look like they go on for miles. So I sprung for a pair to go with my little black dress and I’m so glad I did. They are the prefect shoes for dressy summer events.

A classic little black dress can be tailored to any event. Pairing this vintage velvet shift dress with bright red lips and nails added a pop of color and made it great for a summer occasion. Proof that red and black really are the perfect combo.

Get My Look: 1. Simple strappy heels. 2. Black velvet dress. 3. Red lipstick and nail polish.
