STYLE GURU STYLE: Vest Dressed

For the last few seasons, the runway has been all about military-inspired styles, and outerwear. In rag & bone’s fall 2016 show, a plethora of casual cool outfits featuring olive green jackets and vests were a great addition to the show. I love the military trend because it can go edgy, or you can style it to look more feminine. There are so many different spins you can put on this trend to make it your own.

My outfit is more of an everyday twist on my favorite look from the show. This is something I can just throw on to go to class while still feeling put together. The vest is the focal point of this look, and is super versatile. When it zips up, it has a high, almost turtleneck, but I like to wear it open to keep it casual. The pockets and zippers are a tarnished gold color which gives it a sort of vintage feel.

Underneath I have on a simple long-sleeved T-shirt and jeans. You could really wear this vest over anything. When getting dressed for class, this look has the three elements that are important in my style: comfortable, chic and simple. Here, I’m wearing ankle length jeans, which I’m so glad are in style. The break between the bottom of the denim and the shoes give an extra element of height. I’m very petite, so I’m always looking for ways to add the illusion of height.

To finish off my look I added a pair of platform espadrilles that I picked up at the CollegeFashionista X Steve Madden event in Union Square. They’re cute and on-trend with the “flatform” style that’s been popping up over the last few seasons.

Get My Look: 1. Vest. 2. Denim. 3. Shoes.
