STYLE GURU STYLE: Velvet Vibes

This winter in Chicago has been so up and down lately. One minute it’s freezing the next it’s mild. The best way to combat the craziness is to layer so you can be ready for all temperatures. My personal style can be best described as casual chic. I love to mix comfy items with classic and polished ones. That is one of the easiest ways to make a look effortless!

For today’s look I chose to sport my latest obsession in winter fashion trends: velvet. This top is really comfortable, but the rich black velvet makes it look so luxurious. My favorite part about this top is how soft it feels. It is loose fitting so sometimes I like to wear it half tucked. The back detail is really interesting too because it has a low v-shape with a strap across the shoulders. I paired the top with these houndstooth print mid-rise pants. These pants are comfy as well because they fit like leggings and are so figure flattering! Houndstooth is also my favorite print and I wear it year-round. It is so classic because it never goes out of style.

I added a black trench coat to the look because it was cool and windy. This coat is my new go-to for days I don’t feel like wearing my knee-length parka, which Chicagoans are all too familiar with. You cannot go wrong with a classic trench on mild winter days. The coat actually has a charcoal vest attachment inside, which makes it versatile and trendy. I went with a nude pair of kitten heels to take the look from casual to dressy. A red lip plays up the classic vibe and completes the look.

There are many ways to switch up your style and add trendy pieces. Mix and match textures, patterns, and just have fun with it! I will always have items in my wardrobe that I refuse to get rid of because they are so versatile and that is key to developing personal style.
