STYLE GURU STYLE: Velvet In Love

We’re seeing it everywhere: the ’90s velvet look is (thankfully) coming back into style. From velvet pants, dresses, shoes and jackets, it’s hard to go wrong. I personally love the velvet look or frankly anything 90s inspired.

One of my favorite styling tips is playing around with different patterns. Velvet gives us an awesome opportunity to do that. Another favorite of this outfit is the classic blazer look. Of course this blazer is much less structured because of its fabric, but it still carries a sense of sophistication and class.  Like most things in life, balance is key. Too much velvet, or pairing with the wrong pieces, can make your outfit look tacky or gaudy. When scrolling through the Tommy Hilfiger pre-fall 2016 collection, I immediately fell in love. He played around with a lot of different textures like velvet, leather and fur. There were also plenty of blazers and blouses.

My inspiration came partly from this collection and partly from my need to wear this velvet blazer I got for Christmas this year. Although slightly expensive, this extraordinary piece is timeless. I can’t wait to be wearing this coat well into my 20s. I’m a big bargain shopper, but if i’m going to spend my money it’s most likely going to be on a unique jacket that can be worn multiple ways.

Get my look: 1. Velvet jacket. 2. White blouse. 3. Boyfriend jeans.
