STYLE GURU STYLE: Valentino Approved Layers

Paris Fashion Week is full of celebrity attendees and designers who create collections that wow their audience. Valentino’s collection for autumn ready-to-wear was no exception. Out on the runway were layered looks consisting of dark blacks, pristine whites, sparkling blush and nudes and pops of bright colors in which yellows and reds were incorporated. It was no question that this latest Valentino collection was a ten out of ten.

I decided to translate Valentino’s use of long layers and neutrals into my own cool Chicago day ensemble.  I started by putting on a slitted black maxi skirt from Reformation as my main piece.  I wanted to use this skirt as a base for my look and layer over it with some of my favorite fashionable pieces that are in my wardrobe. For my top, I layered a soft black sweater from Tobi over a pleated white asymmetrical tank top from Zara.  This tank top added interest and additional layers. Since the outfit was quite flowy, I decided to use a metallic jeweled belt from Anthropologie in order to cinch my waist in and give my body more shape. To finish off the look, I added my newest love, a blush faux fur coat from Free People, on top and completed the look with my edgy thigh high cutout boots from Jeffrey Campbell.  The outfit itself was already a statement, but by adding the coat, it allowed my look to be runway ready and blogger-approved.

Since Valentino’s collection made use of long layers that included skirts and layering coats, I really wanted to emulate that in my personal look.  While I did incorporate my own take on his collection, it still fit my personality while staying on-trend. Overall, layering is a great way to look chic and put together, but also allows any Fashionista/o to look like they just stepped off the runway at fashion week.

Get My Look: 1. A long sheer black maxi skirt. 2. A blush faux fur coat. 3. A statement belt.
