STYLE GURU STYLE: Unabashedly Unstructured

Style Guru Style

The Gucci spring 2014 ready-to-wear show incorporated traditional Asian stylings with some western inspirations, especially in the form of a long, slinky kimono. Adding metallics to the garments creates an eye-catching look that will keep them shining day to night. This collection reminds you to add a little luxury to your life. Kimonos of almost any length or print can be found in all of your favorite stores.

I scooped up this cropped kimono from our friends at Bib + Tuck (a great spot to get designer brands for way less) and it has been a vital part of my closet ever since. I like to let the kimono speak for itself and let the rest of my outfit fade to black. To give my ensemble a bit of an urban flair, I paired it with black cutout boots and a dark lip color.

You can stay true to this trend year round. Wear yours over dresses and shorts this summer and throw on some skinny jeans when it starts to get cold. Think of this style as an update to your basic cardigan. It adds light layering and really draws an interest to your outfit. Kimonos can be the softening touch to an edgy ensemble or glam up your little black dress. This style works for all shapes and sizes with its flowing structure and wonderful draping. Add one to your wardrobe for a look that screams effortless chic.

Get My Look: 1. Grab a floral kimono. 2. Pair with a solid colored romper. 3. Put on some boots made for walking.
