STYLE GURU STYLE: Trousers Aren't Just for Boys

During the medieval era trousers were the most common piece of clothing men could wear and as time progressed, they became a staple garment in men’s fashion. Since then designers have created trousers for women as well and like many clothing pieces, they evolved and advanced into by designers presenting new and exciting styles to fashion. Recently the runways have been all about a new style of trouser, the culottes. You may have never heard of this item before, but remember the gaucho? The wide leg pants in a really stretchy fabric that always looked like you were ready to float away because the legs were that wide? Yep, those are the ones. Low and behold the gaucho is back, but in a much cuter package! Culottes are similar to a trouser except that they are a bit shorter and wider, but will still render a bold statement. Max Mara’s resort 2016 collection was all about this signature item. Whether it was paired in an all-black ensemble or in delicate nudes, this look made a statement.

I made this look my own by wearing my culottes for a night time look. A crop top fits perfectly with these high waist trouser hybrids. I added a leather jacket that takes these business ready pants to a whole new level.

Pair your favorite trousers or culottes with a crop top to make this your own signature look! Don’t have a crop top? Take a basic tee and tie a knot in the front or back for an edgier style and voilà! Adding some statement jewelry in a bold metal such as silver or gold will dress up your look guaranteed. Finish off your outfit with your favorite pair of heels and your own signature jacket and get ready to stand out!
