Rachel Zoe’s 2014 spring ready-to-wear collection had me rummaging through clothing racks and department stores for a pair of wide-leg pants. The collection incorporated several big trends for spring including metallic, bold prints, white, pastels and, of course, wide-leg pants. The models strutted down the runway dressed to kill in slouchy tops, shorts and pants. Their hair and makeup were kept simple and chic — putting all the focus on the collection. Most of the pieces were neutral in color: white, cream, tan, green and black. However, the finale wowed with black and white prints that really caught my attention.
Instead of trying to mimic an outfit from the runway directly, I decided to incorporate the fun tribal prints with the wide-leg pants that were in Rachel Zoe’s collection. I started with a pair of wide-leg pants in a black and white tribal print, sticking with the black and white theme from the show. I complemented the pants with a simple black crop top. Crop tops are another trend this season; they are a great choice for high-waisted pants, showing a little skin without being overbearing. I completed my look with a pair of black gladiator sandals and oversized sunglasses.
This casual look — inspired by Rachel Zoe’s trendy ready-to-wear collection — is perfect for a warm summer day. By combining multiple trends from the same collection, I was able to create a cohesive look that was still unique. Although I opted for a tribal printed black and white pair of wide-leg pants, I am eager to try out some denim bellbottoms and white wide-leg trousers that also popped up in Rachel Zoe’s runway show.
