STYLE GURU STYLE: Trend Coat

Who has not seen a trench coat in a 2015 runway show? If you are one of the few, you can simply look at Burberry spring 2015 runway show. This season, Burberry included coats in a variety of bright colors and classic shapes. The silhouettes enhanced the natural figure, and the colors created a feminine feel. Burberry’s spring collection included tool dresses in cohesive mixtures of spring hues. Most of the runway looks focused on rich colors, texture and movement. Burberry did not go wrong this season since spring is a time when you can incorporate these types of colors into your daily style while still making an outfit work. Burberry showed that mustard has become a spring color must-have.

Once I saw the mustard trench coat on the runway I knew that this was going to be one of my spring season staples. Although trench coats are not popularized in southern California, I had to find a way to get my hands on a trench coat that would be suitable for my style as well as for the fresh weather. Trench coats are currently making a comeback in areas where you would not usually see this trend develop. The trench coat has evolved into a “trend coat” that is no longer just for the rain. It is now used to complete a look. Trench coats are being made in various fabrics such as silk and chiffon. Even though these fabrics contradict the actual nature and purpose of a coat, they create a sophisticated yet romantic vibe.

Although I enjoy the color from Burberry’s spring collection, the lightweight fabric used by other designers allows this coat to become wearable in fresh weather. I am wearing an untied, bright mustard “trend coat” in a weightless fabric. This allows me to create an effortless look while still keeping the ensemble fresh and classy. I paired my bright trench coat with an all-black outfit to balance out the femininity that comes along with such a bright color. This also helped the coat stand out and receive undivided attention.

Get My Look: 1. A trendy trench coat. 2. Black booties. 3. Dainty jewelry.
