STYLE GURU STYLE: Totally Tapestry

Tapestry fabrics that first graced our grandmothers’ furniture have recently made their way onto clothing. In case you are not familiar, tapestry fabrics contain a woven floral print that looks as if it was done by needlepoint. Domenico Dolce and Stefano Gabbana were among the first designers to create tapestry apparel, as demonstrated in their fall 2012 collection. My favorite look from the runway consisted of a chiffon floral top tucked into a tapestry skirt, which I attempted to emulate with my outfit.

My tapestry shorts were the focal point of my look. With their black background and subtly colored floral print, they are an extremely versatile piece.

I decided to add some contrast by choosing a white chiffon blouse. With its flowing sleeves and Swiss Dot detail around the shoulders, the blouse had a sophisticated Victorian vibe.

To continue the vintage-inspired theme of my outfit, I added a copper concho belt, which was comprised of copper coins strung on a piece of leather. Traditionally a Native American accessory, this piece added uniqueness to my classy and feminine look.

I polished off my look with my new favorite over-the-knee boots. They helped add a glamorous bohemian touch to my outfit and provided coverage for my otherwise exposed legs. Style and substance!

The look I created with these tapestry shorts epitomizes my personal style. Tapestry is a trend that I have loved for years, and I will always rock it whether it is in the form of boots, shorts, a top or even a purse. Find your own tapestry piece and adapt it to suit your own unique taste.
