Black, leather and denim define my everyday style. With the exception of the summer season, I will be in something black and leather all year round. The perfect accent to any outfit in my closet and maybe yours, is gold, gold, gold!
No matter the occasion, I feel that high-waisted denim cut-offs can be dressed up or down. You could literally pair them with heels, sneakers or sandals! I even wear them with tights once it starts getting cooler. With their flattering fit and depending on the cut, they can be sexy but subtle with their length.
This look was actually the result of three failed outfits before this one. A friend and I were spontaneously heading down to New York Fashion Week to see who we could spot before heading in the shows. For anyone not from New York, the street style is amazing during fashion week so the stakes are set pretty high. I decided to keep the look cool and comfortable while still being stylish.
I felt a Moschino fall 2014 ready-to-wear vibe with this look. Jeremy Scott incorporated many black mesh looks with gold jewels into that collection. It felt only fitting that I be inspired by the runway whilst outside the biggest week in fashion.
My outfit is pretty basic and affordable with an American Apparel mesh crop top matched with high-waisted denim cut-offs. My leather Topshop backpack has become a staple item in my wardrobe along with my leather Converse. I usually keep the jewelry to a minimum and it is always gold. I like to layer dainty gold necklaces and pair every outfit with my gold Casio watch. These adorable gold sunnies were actually from a street vendor in the city, but I found a similar pair from the Australian brand Quay.
All in all, I stick with comfort in my every day outfits. Being confident and comfortable in your style is more important than anything else when choosing your outfit for the day. Living in New York, I wear mostly Converse with all the walking, including the 16 block commute to school every day! Never compromise feeling good for something that just looks good, unless they are really pretty heels. You can make an exception there.
