STYLE GURU STYLE: Tight(s) Squeeze

I gladly welcome fall every year with the promise of crisp weather, beautiful foliage and obviously, the amazing clothes that come with it. However, I’m not so fond of winter because it has a way of squandering style in lieu of bulky layers, hat hair and shapeless coats to protect us from the cold. Instead of succumbing to a leggings and oversized sweater uniform this winter, I am taking a cue from Chanel’s runway and fully embracing tights of all kinds. Chanel featured many of the looks with graphic, lace tights primarily in black and gray colors but I’m interested in all patterns and colors to transition shorter hemlines into winter with style.

I wanted to focus my look around the tights as many of the Chanel looks did, so I started with a brown, textured pair with a vertical stripe pattern. I decided to stick with a warm color palate to complement the tights and chose a maroon corduroy mini skirt. Swapping my usual black opaque tights for a patterned pair immediately updated the outfit. Next, I paired the skirt with an ivory tank with a ruffle detail. Many of the runway looks were styled with coats with an oversized blazer feel so I chose a camel jacquard coat that had a similar look. I finalized the look with a statement gold and navy pendant necklace to add some color and brown lace-up boots to make the look cohesive.

This winter instead of packing away all your dresses, skirts and shorts, elevate them with a cool pair of tights to stay warm and fashionable.
