STYLE GURU STYLE: Tie It Up

Ever since I was a child I have been a huge fan of skirts. I would treat every day as a fashion show and preschool as my runway—no joke, I went hard. So, for this post, I channeled my preschool self and wore a statement skirt. However, the preschool in me stops at the skirt. As a freshman in college, I have started to realize that it is time to get a real job and I should no longer be spending my summers at the town pool whistling at running preteens.

I went with a more mature look for this outfit to challenge myself to be prepared for the working world. I chose a statement skirt with a black and white print that has a more mature vibe. The ties of this skirt are even sewn like an actual tie. I decided to let the skirt stand out and wore a black top and black coat with black Chelsea boots. I am not big on mixing patterns because I feel like there should only be one pattern that dominates. So, I let the skirt dominate by wearing all-black. By leaving the coat open I was able to stay warm by still showing off the main part of the outfit: the skirt.

In colder weather, I would pair translucent black tights with this skirt, but as we are having a particularly warm winter, I decided against it. So, take advantage of the warm weather this winter and try out a statement skirt.
