A.P.C.’s fall 2014 ready-to-wear show was stellar. I could picture myself wearing each ensemble for internships, class or to hang out with friends. Each outfit looked poised wearing varsity jackets, denim overalls, shirtwaist dresses, trench coats, gold dresses and floral jumpsuits. What really caught my eye was the outfits consisting of floral printed button-down shirts, buttoned to the neck, and trim solid color knee-length skirts. I love how he balanced out their primness with wild, untamed, curly hair and colorful makeup. Jean Touitou, the label’s creative director, said, “…I prefer to do something easy.” And this look is easy indeed.
I really like the school girl look because the combination of a button-down and a skirt can take you far. You can keep it prim and proper or add extra things to transform it. I decided to put my own twist on it. I paired a sailboat printed button-down with a polka dot pleated skirt, both in blue and white to unify the two pieces. I wore my brown oxford shoes to finish the “classic” school girl look. To make it more my style, I wore my black leather jacket and my Ray-Ban Wayfarer sunglasses.
The school girl look is an easy trend to embrace and can be molded to your personal style. With the button-down and the skirt as your foundation, it can be transformed into any outfit you want it to be. It is definitely worth trying it out.
