STYLE GURU STYLE: The Return Of The Poncho

I’m not going to lie, when I first saw Burberry’s fall 2015 Collection, I got very excited for the return of the poncho. In the fourth grade, everybody who was anybody sported a poncho. It was the best fashion trend of my youth. It kept your body warm and your arms free. Comfortable, yet stylish. With that said, I was still a little nervous to bring this trend to present day. After all, the only way I ever styled my poncho was with gaucho pants.

Fortunately, I got a lot of inspiration from the Burberry collection. This show focused on a lot of patterns and fringe all under a beautiful color palette of warm browns, blues and deep reds. Christopher Bailey combines the ’60s and ’70s to create a beautiful bohemian look that has a handcrafted feel to it. With fringe added into every piece, your inner flower child can now run free.

My absolute favorite thing about this collection is how easy it is to recreate. Although the bold colors and patterns are beautiful, I chose to go for a more subtle look. The star of the show is my cream-colored poncho with subtle detailing on the bottom. The pattern on the bottom resembles Burberry’s fall collection by using a similar color palette, as well as incorporating some fringe. To make my outfit a bit more weather appropriate, I chose an infinity burgundy scarf with fringe detailing. Underneath my poncho, I wore a simple black T-shirt and leggings, making this outfit very wearable. As for shoes, I chose my beloved black booties.

So stay comfy and stay warm. After all, ponchos are fashion’s genius solution on how to wear a blanket in public.
