STYLE GURU STYLE: The Power of the Vest

October 19th, 2016 at 2:07am

Transitioning from the “less is more” vibe of summer to fall’s more layered approach can be a daunting task. It’s either too hot for sleeves or too cold for shorts. Especially as we enter deeper into the fall season when oversized sweaters and leggings just become the go-to look for class.

So I did what any other Fashionista would do, I grabbed a little inspiration from the Topshop Unique fall 2016 ready-to-wear collection. Not only is Topshop the epitome of cool-girl chic, but they are also masters at creating effortless layered looks.

This week my look is really simple, but it packs a punch. The focal point of my outfit is this white longline vest. I don’t often wear white because it is inevitable for me to spill something on it, but when I saw the model strut down the runway in a fur version I knew I needed it in my closet. The waterfall effect of the vest makes it super easy to add on to any look. Plus, it’s light enough for warmer days but adds just enough warmth for cooler autumn days.

Underneath the vest I have on a classic black midi dress. I am a huge fan of midi dresses because of their elongated hemline. I can throw on a midi dress and not have to worry about it flying up as I run all across the city.

Last but not least, the accessories. Again, this look is super minimal so the accessories are pretty basic but they pull the whole ensemble together. For jewelry, I have on a pair of silver statement earrings. My shoes are black suede peep-toe booties, which are perfect for transitioning weather. To keep with the minimalist theme, I’ve added a small leather clutch for my essentials.

An outfit is never complete without a great shade of lipstick. The Topshop Unique collection featured a beautiful shade of fuchsia on the models that I wanted to recreate. I love the pop of color it adds to the whole look.

Finding a perfect outfit that can withstand the transition from summer to fall can be hard, but take a page from Topshop and opt for simple layers.
