STYLE GURU STYLE: The Pinafore Dress

February 16th, 2016 at 2:10am

A staple from the ’50s, the pinafore dress is making a comeback! Featured heavily in the Topshop Unique fall 2015 ready-to-wear show, the dress is making its way back into our closets. The show itself featured many unique items made with light washed denim, leather, faux fur and LOTS of plaid. The neutral tones paired with intriguing silhouettes made this show one of my favorites from that season. Topshop is one of my all time favorite brands because of how it translates runway couture into their ready to wear clothes. Topshop Unique has sprung into the scene highlighting Topshop’s impeccable ability to bring high fashion into our closets. In this particular show, the pinafore dresses really stood out to me in this collection; one plaid one was styled with a black sweater and red shoes. I tried to use this look as my inspiration and translate it into my own style.

I love that the pinafore dress is coming back! It is such a simple way to effortlessly pull an outfit together and even dress up for class! The dress differs from an overall dress or a smock dress because the button detail is found on the back. Pairing the dress with a crop top is also a great way of bringing the look into the 21st century. When you turn to the side, it adds a bit of a trendy flare showing just enough skin. Like I said in my bio, I have a classic style with a contemporary flare, making the pinafore dress the perfect addition to my wardrobe!
