STYLE GURU STYLE: The Outfit Algorithm

Can we all agree that fall fashion is iconic? Chunky sweaters, thick scarves, leather jackets and booties, oh my! And even as the leaves fall and the temperatures drop, we almost look forward to bundling up in our favorite cozy sweaters and scarves on those chilly days. Unfortunately, despite all of these wonderful wardrobe staples, I must admit I still have a hard time layering up and still looking chic.

Through trial and error, I’ve found the key to layering is pairing a slimming piece with an oversized piece. Especially if you’re on the shorter side, this pairing keeps you from looking 10x your size. For example, I’ve paired my favorite sleek leather jacket with a thick scarf. You could translate this over to any outfit, whether it be pairing an oversized turtleneck sweater with a pair of skinny jeans, or a skinny scarf with an oversized denim jacket. It’s a simple outfit algorithm that you’ll be able to repeat during these upcoming chilly months.

Another key part of my fall wardrobe is the boyfriend jean and heeled bootie trend. Nothing compares to the relaxed fit and feel of boyfriend jeans with a little bang from the heel. Another oversized and slimming pairing, too! Though I also can’t get over pairing boyfriend jeans with sneakers (especially my classic adidas Stan Smiths).

Steal my style with a pair of boyfriend jeans, a sleek (faux) leather jacket, a chunky scarf and of course some heeled booties. Stay chic (and warm) during these upcoming chilly months!
