STYLE GURU STYLE: The New Business Casual

If there’s one thing I remember from Legally Blonde, it’s that Elle Woods knew how to put an outfit together. She didn’t let the formality of Harvard Law School stop her. She simply put on her best pink pencil skirt and continued on. As much as I wish I could do the same, pencil skirts are not exactly my thing. They seem a little too restricting for a job that you need to be able to move around in a lot. I could always wear a full-length skirt, but then again, it’s summer and that becomes way too heavy and hot for everyday wear. There’s got to be a happy medium right? Of course! It’s called the midi skirt, and it’s going to become your new best friend if you’re a fellow girl boss. Not only is it work appropriate, but it’s also the new trend that everyone’s talking about!

If you haven’t learned this by now, I consider pink a primary color in my closet. That’s probably why I was drawn to the kate spade new york fall 2015 ready-to-wear collection. While this collection did feature more fall colors such as reds, creams and yellows, kate spade never fails to deliver the perfect pink ensemble as well.

I definitely channeled my inner kate spade new york while purchasing this bright pink midi skirt. It turns out that you can find midi skirts almost anywhere now that they’ve become so popular. However, I knew I had to find the perfect vibrant color to recreate the look. I love this skirt because it’s extremely comfortable, the pleats are adorable and it even has pockets.

Since I paired the skirt with a solid black blouse, I wanted to add my own flair with my statement necklace. I also noticed that in the look the model is holding a clutch, so I accessorized with that as well. Now, if you wanted to keep the focus on the skirt, you could do as I did and wear black kitten heels. However, a fun alternative would be cheetah heels to give the look an exciting print.

Get My Look: 1. Midi skirt. 2. Solid blouse. 3. Clutch.
