STYLE GURU STYLE: The Little Black Dress

Ah, the little black dress – possibly the most iconic fashion staple in existence. It’s chic, classic and easy. As Karl Lagerfeld famously said, “one is never over-dressed or underdressed with a little black dress.” In Zac Posen’s spring 2015 collection, he displays the mecca of LBDs in every style you can imagine—long sleeved, short sleeved, bubble skirts, capes and so much more. Every dress is more beautiful than the next, and the collection is essentially every Fashionista’s biggest dream.

So what makes the LBD such a necessary piece in all of our wardrobes?  You can wear it anywhere and everywhere. Many pieces in your wardrobe are versatile, but trust me when I say there is nothing more versatile than an LBD. After seeing Zac Posen’s collection, I realized my LBD game was seriously lacking. That’s when I went on a determined shopping trip and changed my wardrobe forever.

When I started my last internship, I was so intimidated. All the girls that worked there were incredibly fashionable and gorgeous, and I desperately wanted to look like I fit in. However, dressing for the office was hard and dressing for the office when it’s 90 degrees in New York City was even harder. Not only that, but my office had a pretty strict dress code: no shorts, no short skirts or dresses, no ripped jeans, no cutouts, no tank tops, etc. So where do you go from there? Get yourself an LBD, of course. This dress in particular was great for my internship. It’s lightweight, not too tight and a perfect length. It makes me look instantly polished and professional without looking stuffy.

Not only is it perfect for a professional setting, the LBD transitions seamlessly for a night out. There are so many times when I would meet my boyfriend for dinner straight from my internship, and in this dress, I never had to worry about changing. The best part of an LBD is that it’s just as sexy as it is professional, depending on your setting.
