STYLE GURU STYLE: The Great Outdoors

I hadn’t heard of American sportswear brand Veronica Beard when I was browsing Style.com for some much-needed outfit inspiration. But, as soon as I clicked through photos of a model sporting pieces from their pre-fall 2015 collection, I fell in love. The collection featured boyish jackets,‘70s details and prints, unique layering and contrasting textures and patterns. Veronica Beard’s pre-fall 2015 collection was made for the tomboy with both an adventurous spirit and a bit of a preppy side. The model posed in front of a watercolor wilderness scene backdrop and wore cozy marled camp socks with several outfits, emphasizing the outdoorsy inspiration behind the brand’s pre-fall collection.

My favorite look of Veronica Beard’s pre-fall 2015 collection was an outfit consisting of an army green knit sweater tucked into a brown leather A-line skirt with button details worn with marled camp socks peeking out from black, lace-up stiletto boots. I loved the look’s ‘70s vibe, nature-inspired colors and the contrasting textures of the soft cotton knit sweater and tumbled leather skirt. It also just looks plain comfy (minus the stiletto boots, of course).

Inspired by this specific look, I pieced together a similar outfit with a few touches of my own personal style. In my look, I wore a thicker forest green sweater tucked into a vegan leather A-line burgundy skirt. While the colors were still nature-inspired, I chose pieces with richer tones that evoke fall. But, since it’s still August, I decided to forgo the boots and thick socks in favor of cute but comfortable leopard print loafers. Both the leopard print and the loafer style added preppy touches to my look. Finally, I added a pair of reddish-brown tortoiseshell sunglasses, complementing the colors in my loafers and skirt.

Get My Look: 1. Knit sweater. 2. Vegan leather A-line skirt. 3. Leopard loafers.
