STYLE GURU STYLE: The Grand Tour

July 16th, 2015 at 2:10am

I’m sorry to do this to you guys since it’s summer and all but let’s talk about some history really quick. Remember learning about 18th century Italy? Well, to give you an idea of what was going on around this time period, the first few decades of the 18th century witnessed the end of the Renaissance. The Renaissance had a long lasting impact on Italy which inspired The Grand Tour. What’s The Grand Tour you ask? It was a traditional voyage through Europe by wealthy young Englishmen in search of the art, culture and traditions of Italy.

Inspired by the long trek, Valentino’s spring 2015 ready-to-wear line is like a flash back in time to the cobblestone streets of 1700s Italy. This collection is pure romance. It has absolutely stunning evening wear that is intricately detailed and some simpler pieces that definitely don’t lack a ‘wow’ factor.

In this collection, each outfit was paired with knee-high gladiator sandals which put most of the focus on what the model was wearing. So, when giving my best attempt to put my own personal spin on this epic collection, I started with a stand out dress that would grab people’s attention.

The colors in this paisley printed dress from H&M did a good job compared to the bold array of shades in the Valentino collection. Next, because of the light colors in my dress, I wanted to have an overall summery vibe so I opted for some lace-up espadrilles. These sandals are perfect for the summer time and add a little something extra to any outfit without stealing the spotlight. Finally, I kept it casual by carrying around a plain tote bag and my round sunglasses.
