STYLE GURU STYLE: The Cold Shoulder

June 10th, 2016 at 2:00am

The summer heat is here and in full force! An easy way I like to stay cool and cute is rocking the cold shoulder. The “cold shoulder,” as it has been deemed by the fashion world, is wearing a bare (or almost bare) shoulder. This look originated back in the ’80s and is making a comeback for this humid summer season. The shoulder trend also accentuates the collarbones and neck which can make one appear taller. A cold shoulder piece will add to that sexy appeal to any piece and is versatile enough to wear anywhere from a graduation to a date night. The trendy look is also available in different styles such as dresses, shirt, rompers and jumpsuits. Whatever look you’re going for, you’re sure to find something just for you!

Taking inspiration from Johanna Ortiz’s spring 2016 runway Collection, I styled my Topshop black romper with a subtle glam. The black eyelet detailing makes this romper an instant classic. I can dress it down with flat sandals during the day and with wedges for a night-time look. I even like to add a little body glitter to my neck and shoulders for a subtle glow!

I combined this look with a pair of black studded flat sandals for comfort. This is the perfect item for us gals on-the-go. To add some flare to the look, I paired the romper with my favorite Marc Jacobs fuchsia cross-body bag. This adds a break in the black with a pop of color.

I also took some inspiration from Kourtney Kardashian and added a pair of chunky Free People sunglasses. I finished my look off with my favorite faux diamond earrings and simple gold and black watch.

The best thing about this trend is that it allows to you feel and exude confidence. No matter what style you use to rock this trend, you’ll look bold and stylish. The cold shoulder trend is also sold with thin straps (like this one) if you feel you need that extra security!
