STYLE GURU STYLE: The Cape Craze

I’ll be honest: up until a few years ago, whenever I heard the word “cape” I instantly thought of 19th century detective capes, magnifying glass and all. Luckily, I’ve embraced the cape life; They’re chic, sharp and effortlessly cool. This style staple makes for striking outerwear and adds an elegant vibe to your wardrobe. Capes also add the right amount of drama to any look and can take your outfit to the next level.

Since capes were one of the biggest trends at Fashion Week, specifically Chanel’s fall ready-to-wear show, of course I grabbed this one as soon as I saw it on the sale rack (win). Brown is one of my favorite colors to wear, especially in cold weather (it makes sense in my head) and the knit texture keeps me warm in the freezing weather. This specific cape had zippers that add a unique touch to the look because most capes have a trench coat look.

I always thought I was too short for over-the-knee boots but these brown suede boots are perfect for my size. They have become a huge winter trend and they’re a stylish way to keep warm in chillier temperatures. OTK boots are one of those pieces that look different on everyone, so there are different ways to wear them for all body types, definitely worth a Google search.

Statement necklaces have always been an “it” item in my book. Some may think they’re overwhelming or difficult to wear with certain outfits, but I think they liven up any look. For a more casual look, you can sport a minimal statement necklace, which adds a touch of glamour but isn’t too overwhelming for the daytime. On the other hand, an oversized necklace is the perfect accessory to add to a dramatic nighttime look.
