STYLE GURU STYLE: The BluePRINT of Dresses

Summertims is finally heating up on campus here in Champaign and I think it’s safe to say that many of us have been waiting for the time to come so that we can let our legs make their summer debut and stay for at least a while. Now that the days are warm on a more consistent basis, dresses are definitely popping up left and right when walking down the street and everyone is starting to have that warm feel. With the realm of dresses, there is so much variety within the options of just that article of clothing itself. Keep it fun with a dress that has a unique aspect that stands out to you every time you wear it and be dressed to impress wherever you go!

After seeing Diane von Furstenberg’s spring 2015 ready-to-wear collection, patterns, whether floral or design prints, have been a feature that I absolutely adore in dresses. With my obsession for pockets on dresses, this collection combined two qualities that I love in some of their pieces. For this reason, I based my whole look around this gathered waist dress with patterned designs, pockets and very neutral colors of black and off-white. Even when using brighter colors, this look still works and keeps a light feel to your outfit!

Wearing a dress that not only accentuates your curves by having a gathered waist but stands out with its print, lets you accessorize up for a more formal look or use simple pieces to have a chic, comfortable, everyday vibe. I decided I wanted a more casual ambiance as I accessorized my dress so I paired this dress with a simple gold cuff and gold plate necklace. Finally, in order to keep a supple and fresh look I used Sephora’s Ultra Shine lip-gloss with a purple-red tint to give my lips a more full feel while still keeping my makeup subtle. Although a simple look, dresses can be fun and versatile enough to stay relevant throughout your day—DVF has never steered me wrong!

Get My Look: 1. A print dress with at least one feature that stands out to you. 2. Simple jewelry to allow you to not look bare, but not look too jazzed either. 3. A tinted lip-gloss to give your lips more depth.
