STYLE GURU STYLE: The Birthday Suit

June 2nd, 2015 at 2:00am

Hello, my friends! I’m curious; do you believe in the zodiac? Because it’s my birthday season, and I believe for that reason, my luck, energy and aurora have all been kissed and blessed by the cosmos. It helps that my birthday month (May) is in the middle of spring, the season of rebirth and reestablishment. Just like the foliage and flowers blooming before us, I feel my confidence and personal style blossoming on schedule like it does every year. For my 20th birthday, I decided to take a cue from both of Christian Dior’s fall 2014 couture and spring 2015 ready-to-wear collections. Both featured looks with stunning, white dresses, and while a few were simple in design, others rendered more original. White is a supreme color going into spring and even summer, because it mirrors the rejuvenation the season represents.

While loving Dior’s take, I wanted to add my own twist, of course! Because I’m more partial to a rebellious sort of look, I added touches of Madonna, a woman whose style truly shines. To start off, I went for an atypical, white dress. I could have gone in lots of directions with this one, but I especially choose this dress for its skater skirt finish and the cutouts around the waist. All it took was the addition of my combat boots, a voluminous hairstyle and a few statement necklaces to complete my ’80s, star-styled look.

I encourage you all to find a white dress and make it your own. It’s symbolic of a fresh start and personal style recharge. There’s a white dress for every style, just make sure yours reflects who you are.

Happy Birthday to all of my Geminis out there! Enjoy the season.
