STYLE GURU STYLE: The ’70s Are In

Unless you have been cooped in your house all summer with no internet service, you must know that the jumpsuit is the biggest trend of the season. Whoever started using the cliche, “History is repeating itself,” must have been referring to fashion, where we see old trends getting revamped time and time again. While jumpsuits were a major trend in the 1970s, they have made an even bigger impact in 2015, and we simply cannot get enough of them! In fact, the ’70s are coming back all together, with bell-bottoms, fringe and necktie blouses. When I saw the Rachel Zoe resort 2016 collection, I felt like I was transported to a chicer version of the disco era. While she used silhouettes that were reminiscent of the time period, the textures, colors, prints and accessories that she used were much more avant-garde.

One of my favorite looks was look 13. I was drawn in by the beautiful wide-legged pants and the vertical striping that went down the the side, which when coupled with the geometric striped, fringe cropped jacket, created a very elongating effect. Even though we all adore a pop of color, especially in the summertime, sometimes black and white ensembles are more captivating than the most colorful sundresses. In fact, when creating dramatic silhouettes and intricate prints, adding color can be overwhelming.

In lieu of this flawless look, I wore a jumpsuit with a wide-legged bottom and a tribal black and white print, which I paired with an off-white straw hat. I think that black and white is so easy to work into your wardrobe, and the material of this one, is light and wearable for summer. I paired it with an enamel hat, to bring out the off-white tones in the print, and black criss-cross sandals. While I loved the retro aspect of the wide pant, it did not scream Saturday Night Fever. So, if you are not quite ready to delve into bell-bottoms this summer, I would encourage you to ease into retro trends by trying out a casual, wide-legged romper.

Get My Look: 1. A tribal print jumpsuit. 2. Black sandals. 3. A sun hat.
