STYLE GURU STYLE: Textured Layers

I have always been a fan of the layering trend. I love layering because it adds dimension to your look. It can also help to translate your look for different occasions by adding or switching out different layers or accessories.

I have taken inspiration from Nanette Lepore’s spring 2015 ready-to-wear and resort 2016 collections to help create a look that is textured, layered, bright and beachy. I kept the “relaxed, beachy vibe going” (from the ready-to-wear collection) with one of my favorite colorful layering pieces for summer. This piece ties in perfectly with Lepore’s resort 2016 collection, which focuses on the simple “beauty and femininity” of fashion by examining the importance of textured patterns and loose layers.

My outfit includes a plain black camisole from LOFT, paired with white cuffed Old Navy Shorts. I am wearing a silver and gold drop necklace and simple diamond stud earrings. I threw on my favorite layering piece, my woven aquamarine summer jacket with wide-bell sleeves that adds the perfect pop of color and feminine vibe. I finished it off with my favorite silver and gold beaded sandals, and my white Michael Kors cross-body and black Michael Kors cat-eye sunglasses.

Layering will always be a consistent trend in the fashion world. Not only will it help you out when the weather gets chilly, but it also adds character to your outfits and makes it that much easier to switch it up. Always explore different layering techniques because you may come up with awesome new outfits from pieces you already own!
