STYLE GURU STYLE: Texture Tantrum

Business casual has officially become one of my favorite fashion trends. It allows for a lot more creativity than you may think. This classic, clean cut look draws inspiration from the Maiyet resort 2016 collection. This line is an effortless mix of traditional chic city wear with a boho twist that helps keep it simultaneously classic and cutting edge. Full of intricate embroidery and warm colors, it’s described as “pleasingly familiar” and “novel.” It features the hot trend of matching two piece outfits. What I love most about it are the crafty elements like brass buttons, fringed scarves and fun fil coupé detailing. There’s also a liberal amount of velvet, suede, bouclé and cotton wool blend fabrics which gives off such a warm, inviting vibe. It makes you want to just reach out and touch the variety of rich textures.

I made this style my own on it by emphasizing the work style pieces. I chose to utilize their color scheme and mix of textures. In pairing a light, neutral top with these richly embroidered straight leg pants, the outfit is both preppy yet relaxed. I added suede booties as an homage to the mixing of textures that is so ubiquitous in this line. Lastly, I wore an earthy, jeweled pendant necklace to pull in the craft elements from the line.

If I were to wear this outfit outside of the work setting, I would definitely fully embrace the military jacket with bold buttons and messenger bag combination seen on this model in Maiyet’s runway show. It combines all of my favorite elements from this collection in one edgy, textured piece.

Get My Look: 1. Neutral top. 2. Textured dress pants. 3. Geek-chic glasses (prescription optional).
