STYLE GURU STYLE: Sweet Vintage

Happy 2016, you lovely folk! I cannot believe another year has come and gone. 2015 was a great year, but I am excited to spearhead into this new year and work harder than ever before. As my winter break winds down to a close I am taking advantage of the warm weather here in Southern California before I head back to the Big Apple. Dresses are one of favorite items to buy since they are essential for lazy girls, like myself, who want to be fashionable without too much effort.

For this look I pulled inspiration from the Céline spring 2016 ready-to-wear collection. Designer Phoebe Philo created a variety of essential looks for any occasion. The collection consisted of beautiful monochrome and simple contrast outfits with silhouettes that were subtle yet eye catching. One dress in particular caught my eye, which was one of the sophisticatedly styled ‘90s-inspired slip dresses. The look was simple, yet elegant, and was paired with red pointed flats and red lipstick for added dimension. Inspired by this collection, I decided to create my own look suitable for a practical workday or a going out on a dinner date.

I wanted to make this look versatile, so I paired an ivory silk long-sleeve blouse with a black and white polka dot pinafore. This outfit is casual enough that you can wear it to work or school. However, it is also great for going out with friends, or even meeting your boyfriend’s parents for the first time. The bow on the blouse gives the look an added touch of sweetness. I also paired some white pointed ankle booties for added cohesiveness.

For the accessories in this look, I also wanted to keep it simple. I decided to go for a red bracelet and ring which matched nicely with my ruby heart necklace from Kay Jewelers. I also wore my vintage onyx ring from my great grandmother and cat eye glasses to complete this overall vintage chic look.

Pulling further inspiration from the collection, I chose a lipstick that matched the color coordination of my accessories, and painted my nails a dark ruby red for a cohesive look.

What I love about fashion is that it allows me to be sort of like a chameleon. Fashion gives me the ability to express myself and to experiment with my look. It is all about finding inspiration and adapting it into your own personal style. If you are a broke college student and cannot afford the newest luxury brands do not fret! Start with pieces that you already own and buy items that you can use to style what is already in your closet. Mix things up! You are constantly evolving and so is your style. Try something new as you head into 2016. A little change is always refreshing.
