STYLE GURU STYLE: Summer Blackouts

When I think of summer colors what springs to mind are pink, yellow pastels, bright blues and sparkling whites. Watching the Vera Wang spring 2015 ready-to-wear runway show has single-handedly convinced me that wearing all black might also be a great option. While black is not the most optimal color to wear in the summer heat, it is essential that any Fashionista picks out light fabrics that don’t overheat. Black monochromatic outfits are always fashionable, simple and sophisticated.

Vera Wang’s highlights two very different looks in her show. The first is a tailored and constructed ensemble, while the other is a softer, more feminine look using chiffon and floral designs. I choose to capture the feminine look by wearing a black high to low dress, paired with black flats. I wanted to capture the light airiness of her designs. Wearing a dress with an extra layer of fabric that is not fully attached to the dress allows it to flow in the summer breeze.

While Wang stayed clear of any color she added gold touches to her outfits by using belts that cinched at the waist. I choose to add color by incorporating accessories with a hint of gold color. I wore delicate cuff earrings, a necklace and a purse with gold hardware. To add depth and layering to my outfit I opted to wear different fabrics. The dress was chiffon, the shoes suede and the purse leather. Each piece was different yet complimented the other, which created a highly textured look.

To complete this look I wore a bright pink lip stain that burst with color and adds instant excitement to my look.

Get My Look: 1. A Black dress. 2. D’Orsay flats. 3. Purse.
