STYLE GURU STYLE: Suede, Scarves, and Smiles

College students during winter break are stuck in the middle of their two lives and may be unsure of how to feel about it. They have one life up at college that they just settled into, but then they head home to their old lives for a month. Let me tell you, packing to come home is a way harder task than I thought it would be, especially in winter. You need to bring all of your jackets, which takes up pretty much your whole suitcase, but you still need to leave room for pants, shoes, and shirts. I found out the trick is to pack basic pieces that can go with multiple outfits to relieve the stress of packing 30 unique and individual looks, which is something I would be guilty of doing if space allowed.

Denim is my favorite look year-round. From summer to winter, you can catch me in some denim piece, whether it be a jacket or even a choker. This simple jean jacket from Zara is perfect with any look and can double as a casual daytime piece or a jacket over a sleek dress for a night on the town. The plain, turquoise Free People shirt is a warm and comfortable piece that is the perfect shade of the deep winter color scheme many love during this time of year. Who says we can’t wear pops of bright color during wintertime? This scarf is a patterned jumble of different designs and colors, adding a statement to this otherwise basic outfit. I finished off the outfit in the details with must-have over-the-knee suede boots and a double buckled black and silver belt.

It’s not an easy task packing up your life and moving for a month, especially if the climates are extremely different, but it is not impossible. A few statement pieces mixed with a few of your go-to staple items, and you’ll have a cute and easy outfit each day of winter break.
