STYLE GURU STYLE: Style Is Forever

The key to being a Fashionista is knowing when and (most importantly), how to incorporate trends into your wardrobe. As someone who likes to keep their wardrobe fairly minimal, I am always skeptical about investing in pieces that will most likely fade away in the coming years or even months. Finding pieces that fit in my minimal wardrobe while playing off of trends keeps my wardrobe cohesive and still allows me to stand out as an individual with style.

I am sure you have seen a variation of this look before: the oversized T-shirt or sweatshirt with knee-high boots on celebrities like Rihanna, models like Chanel Iman, or even your local street style bloggers like Aleali May. I can not say that there is anything new about this look. However, what I love about fashion is that everyone will always have their own interpretations on “mainstream” trends.

On my take of this popular look, the crew neck sweater dress is the main piece. This particular one is from a local boutique in my area, however, you can find a graphic printed or hooded sweatshirt to fit your individual style. The lace up detail on this sweater is what drew me to this particular one. Knee-high boots are a basic staple that should be a part of every Fashionistas wardrobe essentials. Whether they are heeled or flat, suede or leather, closed or open-toed… You need a pair (or two!). These black faux suede ones I am wearing are super easy to pair with a casual look or even dress up for a night out.

Following trends does not mean you are any less of a Fashionista or any less creative. Just always remember—fashion is now, but style is forever!
