When designing his 2015 resort Collection, Tomas Maier put it perfectly. “Casual, but still designed,” said the designer of his self-titled collection. Basically, it’s what every girl is looking for in her life—clothes that make you look great without having to try too hard. The collection is mainly made up of strong pieces that stand alone, such as a couple of super chic, loose fitting dresses and some great skinny jeans. What’s really fun about this collection is that it also comes with bathing suits that are perfect for summer. If any of you follow Tomas Maier, you will know that his swimsuits are what he is best known for, so it is no surprise that is collection would be accompanied by some of his signature craftsmanship. Like the rest of his collection, these swimsuits are simple and timeless.
An interesting mix of leather, cotton and jean comes into play with Tomas Maier. Many of his accessories are leather and are used to create and edge with some of the more simple cotton dresses. This comes usually in the form of belts, but also in a couple of different bags. His true skill with denim is apparent in both a fabulous jean dress and skirt. We can also look to the amazing fit of his skinny jeans for more evidence. Personally, I love when designers add a little bit of sheer fabric to pieces in their collections. This cheeky approach is seen in two of Maier’s maxi prairie dresses. Almost everything is in a solid color with the exception of two dresses that have an added palm tree print; but even this pattern is very simple. Browns, dark blues, army greens and the occasionally bold red make up the entirely of Tomas Maier’s color pallet.
Because everybody owns or should own a great pair of skinny jeans, I decided to make that the focal point of my look. I often prefer to cuff my jeans, mostly because I have long legs and it is hard to find pants that are long enough. The struggle is real! I contrasted this with a great cotton button-up I stole from my mother that I felt it paired well with the tightness of the jeans. This shirt also has structured sleeves and buttons, so it brings everything back together. You can never go wrong with a great pair of blacks flats. They work well with so many different things because flats are both relaxed but sophisticated, just like Tomas Maier.
