STYLE GURU STYLE: Stripes On Stripes

Everyone has at least one striped tank top or T-shirt that you probably throw on with jeans when you only have a few minutes to get ready. Well, if you take even five more minutes, you can make a basic outfit into a designer look.

In terms of patterns, stripes are usually a safe bet in the sense that they are easy to mix and match and usually don’t overwhelm an outfit when done correctly. Although stripes have always been a pattern that can be found in fashion, they are slowly becoming more prominent in entire outfits. Recently, stripes have taken a larger role in outfits, as can be seen in this Sonia Rykiel resort 2016 collection. Whether it’s a midi dress or a shirt and skirt combo, the pattern is becoming more and more dominant on the runway and in the streets. Sonia does a great job at pairing stripes with other stripes in order to make a simple silhouette more appealing to the eye and give a little more interest to an otherwise basic look.

Because this can be difficult to do, I decided to take a shortcut with this T-shirt romper. This is an easy way for anyone to create a runway inspired look without having to put in the runway amount of work. Since I was headed to the pool I just grabbed my favorite pair of aviator sunglasses and slip on sandals, but keeping the accessories to a minimum is always a good idea for this trend.

Get My Look: 1. Opt for the all-over stripe like I did here. 2. Pick one striped piece. 3. Add simple accessories.
