STYLE GURU STYLE: Stripes And Spades

There are two types of people in this world. There are those who are striped people and those who are polka-dot people. I myself am definitely more of a stripe person. I think they give off more of a sophisticated, serious look. When I think of polka-dots, I think of people who are more bubbly and soft-spoken. Of course, there is nothing wrong with these types of people; in fact I have many friends that I would consider polka-dot lovers. But in my opinion, they are childish, and it’s just not my style.

When I decided on my look today, I went to kate spade for some inspiration. Her spring 2015 kate spade new york ready-to-wear line is just as feminine and clean as you’d expect it to be. It consists of simple silhouettes in bright prints and colors, or more toned down prints with fun handbags as accent pieces. Kate spade has never been a designer I turned to for outfit advice, but her quirky handbag collection always caught my eye. Look 19 is where my exact vision came from. This look features a simple black and white striped T-shirt dress, paired with flat sandals and an oversized heart-shaped red handbag.

To imitate this look I chose a simple black and gray thin striped trapeze dress from Forever 21. I paired it with tribal print flat sandals with a woven ankle strap made by Billabong. To accessorize, I chose a large statement necklace with light pink and silver beading from H&M. Lastly I threw my neon pink kate spade cross-body bag over my shoulder and I was out the door.
