STYLE GURU STYLE: Stripe, You’re Out

We’re just a week away from another semester filled with the following: black iced coffee, writer’s block and crowded train rides. Oh, joy! This summer just flew on by and I managed to squeeze in a few great adventures. I started the summer off right by going to a New York Yankees game. We got bleacher seats, exposed right under the sun and its warmth gave me life because it was a such a brutal winter last year. There is just something about going to baseball games; the cotton candy, bleacher seats, the golden sun and friends, perfection! Funny thing is, I don’t like to watch sports; I would rather play them. I mean, I’m no expert, but I just have more fun playing the game.

I’m a huge fan of stripes, specifically nautical striped shirts. You know, the french-chic kind of stripes? Oui, oui. This past spring I fell head over heels for DKNY’s spring 2015 ready-to-wear collection. The collection was filled with beautiful stripes—thick, thin and colorful. Stripes are a wardrobe essential; timeless and work for every season. Some may steer clear of stripes, but I highly recommend giving stripes a try. There are endless options that can work for everyone.

Today, I’m wearing a striped two piece set in my all time favorite color: red. I snagged this set from good ol’ (affordable) Forever 21. This is probably one of my FAVORITE purchases I made this summer. I wanted to go for a sporty look, so I added a lightweight utility jacket to create a balance of color. To top off the look I wore a summer classic: white sneakers. These Superga sneakers are a great alternative to Converse and are extremely comfortable.

Get My Look: 1. Matching set.  2. Classic white sneakers. 3. Utility jacket.
