STYLE GURU STYLE: Statement Pieces Go A Long Way

In order to feel confident, I don’t let myself leave the house in the morning without at least one extraordinary statement piece. If I wear a plain outfit with no color, I will feel miserable all day because I never want to blend in with the crowd. These photos feature Kenzo sunglasses, yellow shorts, a vintage 3.1 Phillip Lim farm tunic and Adam Lippes’ heels from his Target collaboration. A great way to add style to any outfit is to subtly mix patterns. In my outfit you can see that I have black and white plaid shoes, and a black and white striped bandeau. The 3.1 Phillip Lim’s spring 2016 runway collection exhibits extraordinary style, especially in terms of how to wear statement pieces. If you look through these photos you’ll see how you can translate his designs into your wardrobe.

In order to find confidence in a great outfit, one must find extraordinary statement pieces. When you are shopping, buy something you think your style icon would wear, and do what you can to make it work on you. When you are looking for unique statement pieces, try shopping somewhere new. Perhaps a vintage shop that you’ve always passed by, but never have gone inside. Vintage pieces have already been pre-loved so the condition that they are in when you buy them is how they will stay. It might take you several years to find the perfect outfit but it is always worth it. Keep in mind quality over quantity. If one great wardrobe piece is the same price as three good pieces, then go with the first option.
