With today’s trends being inspired by past styles and eras, it may be hard to believe but it’s true—fashion is evolutionary, not revolutionary.
Have you heard of hammer pants, bell bottoms or even clogs? Well, after a few modifications and alterations styles like these have evolved to meet the closets of today’s Fashionistas and Fashionistos.
But, what about fashion’s staple items? Staple items last forever, right? Well, yes. That’s the idea, however even some staple items could use an upgrade whether it’s the design or the shape and fit. I mean, that is what keeps it appealing decade after decade. And clearly Diesel Black Gold (DBG) is aware, as their main focus was to spice up their staple items while maintaining their clientele for their pre-fall 2016 collection.
As this collection was inspired by the city at night, materials like lurex jacquard and metallic leather are incorporated to add a “razzle-dazzle” essence to staples such as bombers, parkas, motorcycles jackets, denim and turtlenecks. To further spice up those staples DBG played with size and proportion, in order to create dimension and volume.
To channel this look, I could have easily sported leather, a metallic sweater and my darkest denim. However, I wanted this look to reflect my personal, everyday style which is simple and chic. While, I also tried something new, by wearing a mock turtleneck and a new hairstyle. I definitely switched up my staples!
