STYLE GURU STYLE: Springing Into Festival Style

Festival season is upon us, Fashionistas! With Coachella coming up in just a few days, I could not be more excited for the start of festival season trends. Whether you prefer Sasquatch, Lollapolooza or smaller fests, festival style is a hugely important part of the whole experience. There’s something about a whole weekend of letting loose and listening to awesome music with a whole bunch of cool people that allows for vibrant trends to come out to play. Festivals are a time for trying out new trends, playing around with accessories and beauty trends and straying from your everyday basics.

This year, fashion house Chloé utilized bohemian festival style in their spring ready-to-wear collection, using strappy sandals, flowing tops and skirts and lots of denim to show that the Chloé Girl is also the “Festival Cool Girl.” The collection also includes lots of prints and vibrant colors, which I borrowed for my look.

Unfortunately, not every weekend can be Bonnaroo or Burning Man, so I decided to translate festival style into my everyday spring look. I started with a patterned top to add a fun, bohemian element to this look. The flowiness of the top kept the look casual and makes it comfy enough to wear to class or to run errands. Ninety percent of my casual spring looks include distressed denim in some shape or form, so these jeans were a must. The braided bun, courtesy of my roommate, has me rocking out to my favorite sets and is officially Chicago wind-proof. Finally, every Festival Girl needs a comfortable pair of strappy sandals to survive the long weekend or, for me today, the streets of Lincoln Park. Ultimately, this look has me jamming out on the L looking forward to all the festival looks to come.
