STYLE GURU STYLE: Spring Stripes

To me, spring screams rebirth. With the warmer weather approaching, I have already begun switching out my winter jackets for light trench coats and silk bombers. A new season means a switch-up in style, so I looked to the spring 2016 runway trends for some inspiration.

Every year, when spring comes around, I tell myself that I will start wearing more colors and patterns. I consider myself to be a minimalist, but recently my appreciation for bolder items has grown. Missoni’s spring 2016 ready-to-wear collection is known for its bohemian, zigzag pattern. However, this year, Angela Missoni decided to switch back to the stripe. She stated “before we were a zigzag, we were a stripe.” The colorful stripes were seen on dresses, pants and shirts alike. Missoni wasn’t the only designer to go for this bold pattern. Prada and Salvatore Ferragamo also featured some looks with colorful stripes.

For my look, I went for a slightly cropped, wide leg pant featuring some standout stripes. This pant silhouette is also new for me, but I must say that I really love how comfortable they are. I’m not daring enough to sport an outfit full of stripes, so I kept the rest of my look simple and casual. I tucked a black camisole into my pants and wore some classic adidas Superstars on my feet for extra comfort. I’m convinced that these shoes go with everything. To finish off my look, I threw on an olive shirt-dress and wore it open like a jacket.

Don’t be afraid to try new styles, because you might discover your new favorite one.
