STYLE GURU STYLE: Spring Has Sprung

Spring is finally on its way…at least it is here in Richmond! The days of cold weather and sweaters are behind us. Spring is my personal favorite because I love getting to walk to campus with fresh blooming flowers and sunny weather. Everyone’s spirits on campus just seem to be lifted when the sun is out. My outfit was inspired by Zuhair Murad’s spring 2016 couture collection. In his collection, he incorporated very muted tones such as white and gray with variations of jewel toned colors. His details with the lace applique and embroidery make his designs feminine and elegant. I took inspiration from this collection and used it to put together an outfit from pieces I had already in my closet. It’s not always easy to replicate a couture design, so by taking inspiration from it, you can create some really fashion-forward outfits.

First, I started my look with my ruffle trimmed romper. I thought this would work well with my inspiration because it was a nice blue jewel tone. I love all the ruffle details on it that add to its femininity and make it different. Underneath, I added a cream lace bralette. I am absolutely LOVING bralettes lately. They are so comfortable to wear and look great under almost anything. Just like in Zuhair Murad’s collection, this bralette added a touch of lace to my outfit. To complete my look I added on accessories. As I’ve said in the past, accessories for me are what complete every one of my outfits. With the addition of a few things, your outfit can take a whole new level.

My accessories start off with a pair of snakeskin lace-up sandals. I love mixing different patterns and prints into my outfits, so I decided to mix the lace with the snakeskin. Then I added my go-to floppy hat. These have been popular in the fall/winter and can easily be transitioned into the spring. These hats won’t be going anywhere anytime soon. And for my final touch to my look, I added a fringe necklace. Fringe has been another big trend these past few seasons and I love the small touch of it on this necklace. Taking inspiration from a designer’s fashion show can elevate your look and give you new fresh ideas. Never feel like you have to copy the design but use it to inspire you to get creative with whats already in your wardrobe.
