STYLE GURU STYLE: Spring has a New Trick Up its Sleeve…

From off-the-shoulder to embellished sleeves, the must-have tops this spring are definitely not ordinary or predictable.  Want to step up your style game this season?  Make a statement with a new sleeve-type that has already been spotted on Fashionistas everywhere: the bell sleeve!

Just months after seeing flared jeans starting to make reappearances on the spring 2016 runways, as well as the street style scene, the bell sleeve is having an even bigger moment.  I came across this statement-making trend while scanning Derek Lam’s spring 2016 ready-to-wear collection and immediately fell in love with its notice-me nature and bohemian-chic vibe, the sleeves adding full volume and variety to any outfit.

So, if you have been wondering why everyone’s sleeves have been seemingly getting longer and longer—it’s not just you!  Designers everywhere have taken a noticeably strong hold on the bell sleeve silhouette and they will not be letting go anytime soon.  Personally, I believe that this trend is the perfect opportunity for those of you who want to instantly kick up the coolness factor of your spring wardrobe and try out a top that is fun and dramatic.

I chose to pair a breezy, patterned bell sleeve top with a sleek mini skirt, in order to amp up the drama in the sleeve and create a high-impact look that is feminine and spring-ready.  With such a bold silhouette, keep accessories to a minimum for a clean finish: Here, I have chosen to wear loafers in a similar tone to the top and retro sunglasses for an added effect.  This trend is so versatile: wear it casually on a Sunday stroll (slip on skinny jeans and flats and you are ready to go!) or dress it up with a skirt and heels for your next night on the town.  Have fun with it!
