STYLE GURU STYLE: Spring Forward

March 27th, 2017 at 2:00am

Spring is officially here and so are all of the trends from the spring runway shows! I am so excited that I can finally break my out my sunglasses and lightweight dresses because winter is over and I no longer have to wear nine layers of clothing. So long scarves and leather jackets, hello bikinis and sunscreen!

Luckily for me, in Alabama the weather is somewhere in between spring and summer, meaning it’s not too hot but it’s definitely not too cold. I don’t need a sweater to step outside, but if I want to wear something more than just shorts and a tank top, I won’t sweat to death.

As I was researching for this upcoming spring, I came across the Diane von Fürstenberg spring 2017 ready-to-wear collection. It is a little bit out there for my taste, but it had exactly what I was looking for. At the end of last summer, I acquired a sundress from a friend and I couldn’t wait for the perfect opportunity to wear it. I’ve been waiting so long that I just knew I would find a way to sneak it into my spring wardrobe. Who says you can’t wear summer wear in the spring anyway? In fact, just a few weeks ago I believe we sprang forward, therefore, so did my wardrobe.

Inspired by the photos in the Fürstenberg Vogue runway lookbook, I decided to give it a try. I wore a sundress with high heels for a day out and about over my spring break. I was a little nervous at first, but I ended falling in love! This look is the perfect combination of casual and classy. It’s comfortable, (I mean, it’s a sundress, hello), but it’s also classic. The heels add a nice touch that a sundress is otherwise missing. Instead of screaming “Look at me, I’m on the beach!” it screams “Look at me, I look stylish and cute right here in the middle of spring.”

I am fully convinced there is a reason these dresses are called sundresses and not summer dresses. I believe they can be worn at any time you so please… as long as the sun is out, of course.

I hope this has inspired you to try some of your favorite summer looks right now in spring, and if you liked what you saw in mine, here is how you can get my look: a lightweight, flowy and long length sundress, a pair of lace-up or tie-up high heels, and a floppy hat.
