STYLE GURU STYLE: Sporty Minimalism

One of the top trends on the runway for spring 2015 was the mixing of athletic pieces with classic pieces. While Alexander Wang has been doing this for years, Balenciaga’s spring show was easily a favorite for this combination. The use of mesh and collared shirts set this show apart from others in the past. The elegant silhouettes we are used to seeing from Balenciaga were gone, and angular shapes and geometric beading appeared.

Being an athlete, this show was a dream come true. I was used to separating my athletic life from my everyday fashion, but this show made me realize that I should expand my closet and combine the two. I took inspiration from the multiple looks in the show that focused on mixing dresses with strong collars. While the accessories for the runway were just as bold as the clothing, I decided to use classic pieces that would allow for more of an everyday look.

The main piece for this outfit was a navy polo dress from Tommy Hilfiger. I decided to use navy as the main color instead of black so that the outfit was more appropriate for daytime. I added a gold watch from New York & Company along with miscellaneous gold bracelets. To add more of a feminine touch, I combined nude heels with a bright red lipstick to offset the darkness of the dress. The rest of the makeup was light because the lips were the focal point of my face.

Get My Look: 1. A polo dress. 2. A bold lipstick. 3. Nude ankle strap heels.
